Mike Derus is a proud, lifelong resident of Minneapolis. Born and raised on the City’s North side, Mike grew up in a family that modeled service to our community in all its forms, and it’s a lesson he’s taken with him throughout his life.
After graduating from Totino Grace High School, Mike attended the University of St. Thomas where he graduated with a BA in business administration.
While working at Wells Fargo, Associated Bank, and Sunrise Community Banks, Mike focused on helping local communities thrive by providing loans and financial services to small businesses.
As Regional Director of Business Development for Community Reinvestment Fund (CRF), Mike championed equitable access to capital for women-owned, minority-owned, and veteran-owned businesses, and increased access to capital for economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Currently Mike is President and CEO of Fulton Partners, LLC, which specializes in business consulting.
Mike is a Board Member of the Minneapolis Riverfront Partnership and a member of the City of Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development - Development and Finance Committee. Additionally, Mike is a Co-Founder of and Mentor for the Emerging Leaders in Community Development program, a former board member of NAIOP Young Professionals, and a member of the Minnesota 100 Police and Firefighters Benefit Association.
Passionate about raising his own family in the City, Mike lives in the Fulton neighborhood with his wife, Sara, and two young and active boys, David (5) and Daniel (3) and his Jack Russell Terrier named Jackie. You’ll often find Mike and his family out and about in the neighborhood, enjoying the playgrounds, lakes, and Rec. centers, or cruising in his hand-restored 1974 Jeep.
